By way of biographical notes for Benny Andersen, I will quote recent
correspondence from René Aagaard. "On November 8, this year he reached the 70 year mark, and several hundred "fans" including my wife and I, were saluting him by going with torches in the evening in Copenhagen. He said thank you by reciting a new poem he had written for the occasion. It's very, very seldom that artists are hailed like that; only a few times in Danish cultural history had it happened before. ... So you can see that we treasure Benny Andersen. Nowadays he lives half the year on Barbados and half in Denmark. Benny's wife, Cynthia Rosalina La Touche Andersen, is from Barbados. He still tours a couple of weeks a year with singer Povl Dissing." |
